I turned the wooden block calendar over and watched the squares and rectangles tumble out. Something about the feel of numbers and names of months in my hands to be arranged and replaced in the holder is a tangible reminder that another year is in the books and a new one has begun.
My son gave me the calendar years ago and I use it every day. It’s on my desk at work. Some days I change it to the next day as I leave work, especially if I’ll be out of the office – a clue to those who come to visit. Most days I leave it and change it the next morning, never wanting to assume on the Lord’s provision of another day. For we are not guaranteed another sunrise. Each one is a gift from God, and I need to be reminded to see it that way.
